Manbroidery and woodburning works on the Westside

Local artists Aubrey Longley-Cook and Jared Dawson will exhibit work at Octane Coffee’s westside location this weekend. Longley-Cook has been showing his meticulous “manbroidery” work in town for a few years now. When CL caught up with him last year, he explained that he was drawn to “using a male perspective on a traditionally female art form and using that as a platform for queer art as well.”

This weekend’s exhibition, Might and Magic, explores themes of fantasy in Longley-Cook and Dawson’s work. “Through geometry and repetitive practices, they abstract a familiar narrative of boyhood adventure. Might and Magic is an earnest assimilation and recreation of ritual process through embroidery and wood burning,” reads a short statement about the show.
