Romany Malco Terrence Jenkins and Michael Ealy on red carpet at Think Like A Man premiere at Regal Atlantic Station in Atlanta Georgia

The media swarmed the red carpet for the premiere of Think Like a Man at Regal Atlantic Station on Tuesday. Early walkers on the rug included Mayor Kasim Reed, V-103's Wanda Smith and Frank Ski, Judge Brenda Hatchett. But it wasn't long before cast and producers of the film arrived.

I think I rekindled my crush on Gabrielle Union watching her stroll down the carpet. There may be a disproportionate number of pics in the gallery, just saying.

Think Like A Man opens in wide release April 20, 2012.

The Shoes of 'Summer and the City'

Posted by Edward Adams on Fri, Jul 1, 2011 at 2:39 PM

SHOES17.jpg
I know nothing about women's shoes, but I think they make a woman's legs look so damn sexy.

From what I do know about the show, Sex and the City, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) was obsessed with Manolo Blahnik shoes. She gravitated towards stiletto heels like a junkie loves crack cocaine. What is it about the shoes that makes a girl go ga-ga?

While I'll probably never understand the unique bond between a woman and her shoe rack, I was able to spot some interesting footwear and some outstanding bling at the Hypnotiq Harmonie 'Summer and the City' party at the W Hotel Buckhead. Author Candace Bushnell was in town for an exclusive party to promote her new book, a prequel to the SATC books entitled, "Summer and the City: A Carrie Dairies Novel".

Believe it or not, I didn't get a picture of Candace Bushnell's shoes - but I'm sure they were uh, "fierce!"

'Summer and The City' at W Hotel Buckhead

Candace Bushnell premieres latest novel to Atlanta fans at the W Hotel Buckhead.

Candace Bushnell
I've had to attend a few SATC events in my day. My roommate at the time, Maria, made me sit down and watch the show with her from time to time. It wasn't just about the fashions or the random acts of copulation in Mad Lib form around (and on) the streets of Manhattan, but she would sit me down and explain why this episode was so important. Although I would play the clueless dude through most of her diatribe, I got the point that she wanted me to know - women resonate with the universal ups and downs of navigating their daily lives in the pursuit of happiness and success. Its not that deep, but to her it was enough to go buy the DVDs and watch them before going to bed every night. I learned to drown out her guffaws, jeers and cheers at night with an equal volume of Adult Swim and ESPN.

Since then, I've made it through two movies, tons of pool parties and even some dates where the "which character from SATC do you think I am" has come up. FYI, nobody wants to be called a Samantha to their face on a first date.

W Hotels Valentine's Day lush list

Posted by Edward Adams on Fri, Feb 11, 2011 at 5:06 PM

The Sweet Tart
  • The Sweet Tart
About a week ago, I braved the cold, wet Atlanta night to check out a preview event held at Whiskey Park. The very intimate soiree titled, "Love & Bites" was an invite-only preview of the Gerber Group's Valentine's Day/seasonal drink menu additions. The Gerber Group who owns Whiskey Park and Whiskey Blue located inside the W Hotels Midtown and Buckhead, respectively, revise their drink menu regularly to reflect seasonal themes and ingredients. With Valentines approaching, it seems the mixologist kicked whimsy in overdrive to develop a trio of unique gastronomic offerings.

For my first sampling of the night, I decided to try the Candy Heart, a chocolate liqueur, vodka-laced martini. At first glance it looks like any other chocolate concoction until you see the bartender pour this thick, red potion containing strawberry puree and whipped cream on the corner of the glass. The heavy crimson mix retreats to the bottom, but leaves a red spot that transforms into a rustic heart once a stirrer is drug through its center. How clever is that? Aesthetics aside, the Candy Heart is a rich, cocoa-infused mash up of party chic and nostalgia. Taking the first sip, the creamy libation taste less like a martini and more like melted neapolitan ice cream. For anyone who loves the tri-flavored ice cream, is at its absolute best when it starts to melt and the chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavors start to merge. Once you reach the bottom of the glass, you're left with a tasty treat of the fresh strawberry mixture that surprisingly tastes like pure candy on the finish. While it may not be the most masculine of drinks, this is a sure fire for a girls night out or a sure fire conversation starter and possibly as one guy told me while at the party that night, LPR - liquid panty remover.

First Look: The Green Hornet's Black Beauty

Posted by Edward Adams on Wed, Dec 8, 2010 at 5:29 PM

ghornet1.jpg

On Tuesday, folks milling around Atlantic Station spied a shiny black monster of a car sporting kelly green headlights and a cache of weapons on his hood and between the front grill. A closer examination of the vehicle reveals the signature logo of the everyman hero of the '60s - The Green Hornet.

Unless you've been living in a (bat) cave, The Green Hornet, is the next hero film to hit the theaters. Based off the original series, The Green Hornet chronicles the crime-fighting adventures of a dashing newspaper publisher Britt Reit (Seth Rogen) as he dons his alter ego, the Green Hornet alongside his martial arts expert sidekick, Kato (Jay Chou). The dynamic duo uses wit, a wealth of resources and Kato's kick-butt fighting skills along with their custom muscle car: The Black Beauty to bring the bad guys to justice

The Black Beauty, a customized 1965 Chrysler Imperial sports an impressive arsenal of weapons including two 30-caliber machines guns mounted on the hood, a flame thrower and two shotguns with bean bags rounds in its grill and eight sidewinder missiles mounted within the front fender and four additional missiles mounted in the rear fender. In the production of the film the studio created 29 versions of the vehicle, to handle all high speed chases featured in the film.

The car visit is part of a nation-wide promotional tour from Columbia Pictures and Hardee's restaurants. The Green Hornet arrives in theaters on January 14, 2011.

International Bacon Day with Top Chef's Kevin Gillespie

Posted by Edward Adams on Fri, Sep 3, 2010 at 3:57 PM

Bacon has its own holiday?

Yup, September 4, 2010 is International Bacon Day. It was apparently devised by some college students in Colorado in 2004 (according to the all knowing tome of know-it-all Wikipedia) and its spread like wildfire ... or hot bacon grease across the globe.

What exactly are you supposed to do on IBD, just eat bacon.

Purina, the creator of Beggin' Strips is hosting The Beggin' Bacon Bash this Saturday in Cincinati, Ohio and picked bacon aficionado and Top Chef Season Six fan favorite, Chef Kevin Gillespie as its spokesperson. Gillespie is the Executive Chef of Woodfire Grill here in Atlanta and keeps some variation of the our favorite food on the menu.

It seems that Gillespie's choice in sponsors ruffled some feathers though. Yesterday eater.com posted a spicy little rant about Kevin hawking dog food. Granted, it feels a little left field-ish for him to promoting an event from a pet food manufacturer, but really, the mighty fallen? I say let Kevin's food speak for him, and more importantly - let the man make his bacon ... and by that, I mean money.

Earlier this week, I spoke with Kevin via Skype about the Bacon Day and how he plans on spending Sept. 4th.

Sonia and Ed at the Takers red carpet

Local celebs and fans make their way to film premiere at Atlantic Station

Posted by Edward Adams and Sonia Clark on Thu, Aug 26, 2010 at 3:57 PM

takers21.jpg

So, the Red Carpet at Atlantic Station was all abuzz last night for the screening of Takers. And everyone, including the free pass holders were enjoying themselves - even in the humid heat of the evening.

Some of the first celebs to arrive were Yung L.A., Drumma Boy and Young Dro. No matter the question we asked, all were happy for T.I. and were there to support him. They also praised Atlanta as the new Mecca for entertainment. Even Takers film director John Lussenhop assured me, he would be back to film here.

A few other celebs passing through were Judge Hatchett, Angie Stone and Terri J. Vaughn (The Game, All Of Us, The Steve Harvey Show). Too nervous to talk to the Judge (she’s so stinking smart and articulate!), but as a big fan of TLC, I damn near climbed over the security guard’s back to talk to Chili. I figured as single parent chilling on a night out, we would be kindred spirits. She advises that yes, she was done with the school shopping and although her daughter wanted to come out, it was a “school night.” So with parent duties in check, I ask, “What does Chili want?” Her answer, simply, “Paul Walker.” No surprise, that some of the other woman on the red carpet said the same. Lisa Hartwell of The Real Housewives’ of Atlanta echoed the same name answer just minutes later. Once I saw the Fast & Furious star up close and in person I, too had the same wish.

Paul, here in Atlanta to film Fast Five (the fifth Fast & Furious), says the heat here is not a concern. “You know people talk about Atlanta’s heat. We just got in from Puerto Rico and this is nothing.”

Shoot, I try go for broke with T.I. and Michael Ealy, but only manage to ask two questions. With Michael I wanted to know what is next for him and even suggest a musical. He balks advising, “I just don’t sing well enough, love to do much more action.”

As for T.I. he answers my queries with the suaveness far beyond his 30 years. He would not say exactly what is on tap for him next, but whether or not he will do another genre up film is up in the air. “Can’t call it. Whatever I can do to diversify myself as an actor.”

Takers opens Friday, August 27 in area theaters.
