On Monday, when my new MARTA friend commented, Its been like this all week, about the 3-person-deep line of passengers on the northbound platform, I said nothing. I didnt want to give away that Im a regular rider. I also figured he was exaggerating and just trying to make more conversation.
Today, I believed. North Springs train shows up, obviously late because both sides of the track are packed with people. Folks are already a bit annoyed, and even more so when the doors on my side of the platform dont open even after the regular delay that depends on which side you board from (MARTAs version of crowd control, I guess). Folks chance at a seat or even something to hold on to lessens by the second as passengers from the other side pile onto the train.
People are banging on the nonfunctioning door or rushing to others that are open and excusing, aka pushing, their way through. Finally, the door slides open as a MARTA worker barely squeezes out from the crowd inside the train.
All set, ready to go, most everyone is on the train and then the same door that wouldnt open now wont close. Everyone even folks whod been riding since the Airport Station is told to get off.
Good thing Id already decided to wait for the next train. Then again, with the extra passengers those whod been on the train originally plus all the new Five Points riders it was not so good. Definitely, um, cozy.
And funny. As one woman said, before getting off the train, Its a good morning! I rubbed up on a lot of folks today. Im in love!
