The end of the world as we know it

Posted by Scott Freeman on Mon, Feb 5, 2007 at 7:18 PM

News just broke that Turner Broadcasting has agreed to pay the city of Boston $2 million for ... well, being stupid and devoid of a sense of humor.

Here's Turner's official statement:

"We acknowledge our responsibility for the unconventional marketing tactic that we authorized, and apologize to the citizens of the greater Boston area. We understand now that in today's post-September 11 environment, it was reasonable and appropriate for citizens and law enforcement officials to take any perceived threat posed by our light boards very seriously and to respond as they did."

Here's what they should have said:

"We're sorry that the police in Boston are so stupid that they mistook a cartoon character for a bomb.

"We're sorry that this stunt has caused us to receive so much free publicity.

"We're sorry for rolling down the halls in laughter that someone actually took this joke so seriously.

"We're sorry for disrupting the city of Boston. Next time, we will put some of our "we pooted" billboards up in Boston. You know, baked beans and all."

Power to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force!
