No-e-mail Fridays? What about happy hour?

Posted by Alejandro A. Leal on Mon, Mar 12, 2007 at 7:11 PM

A report on ABC’s website is all hugs and kisses for a new trend in corporate office behavior: no-email Friday.

The story doesn’t outline how the companies involved (one of which is an Alpharetta-based outsourcing company) accomplished this feat, other than to quote one of the people behind the whole scheme as saying he'd simply "ban" e-mails on Friday. I do work in an office, and I do get more than 60 e-mails a day, and most, if not all, have warranted a reply. I can’t imagine calling all these people (some of which work outside the city), so I’m genuinely impressed that the policy has improved relevant communication; even if it is transforming the once frigid, “he’s-the-guy-that-provides-reports” kind of “working relationship” into something “deeper.”

I will say this, however. With no-e-mail Fridays, how in the hell are you going to get all your fellow pub-crawlers ready for happy hour?

I know! E-mail them Thursday!
