When the words ârapperâ and âcommunity serviceâ appear together in a newspaper, the accompanying verb often seems to be âsentenced.â Not so last Wednesday afternoon when College Parkâs Yung Joc stopped by downtownâs Loudermilk Center.
The man whose latest single beckons us to let him introduce us âto thug karmasutraâ joined 11Aliveâs Brenda Wood and Georgia Supreme Court Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears to honor Atlanta and DeKalb County Public School students for their community service work.

The forementioned event was put together by Communities in Schools of Atlanta. The mission of Communities In Schools is to connect community resources with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and prepare for life. Choose Success is a program that has been implemented by Communities In Schools (CIS) of Atlanta since 2005. Choose Success provides students with a tremendous opportunity--- a chance to give back. Students identify needs in their communities, apply for small service projectgrants (up to $800), then implement their projects with the support of CIS of Atlanta staff. The experience gives students who are often the recipients of support a chance to be of service to others in need. For additional information @ www.cisatlanta.org
