Found: 'Ways to Create Problems for Yourself'

Posted by Andisheh Nouraee on Sat, Aug 11, 2007 at 3:36 PM

Excerpted from “Ways to Create Problems for Yourself,” a list on page 102 of the Georgia Department of Corrections Reentry Skills Handbook 2008:

Use drugs and/or alcohol.

Be secretive and/or lie.

Abscond.

Sexualize women/children.

Don’t work.

Go into bars.

Use pornography.

Hang around/date minors.

Create new victims.

Get involved with enablers.

Be complacent.

Stay depressed.

Break the law.

Bottle up emotions.

Sexualize your emotional needs.

Don’t believe in yourself or your ability to succeed.

Think, “I won’t get caught this time.”

These should be mileposts for us all. Or roadmaps. Or guideposts. You know what I'm saying, dog.

I am pleased to see that SOMEONE in government actually addresses personal responsibility. Amazing, and thrilling, that someone has the guts to look at a convict and say "It just might be YOUR fault and not "society". Thank goodness I am not an ex-con becasue I enjoy several of these behaviours and would hate to give them up....good reasons to not be a convict in my book hahahaha I wonder how long it will take someone to sue because some of these are construed to be racially motivated, not respectful of someone's "culture" or "demeaning" becasue they are "code" language against som agrieved group or person.

They forgot "Don't be a douchebag," which would also make Dale's list of currently enjoyed behaviors.
