Although September is no longer as meaningful as the launch of the new fall TV season as it used to be (assuming that TV ever qualifies as âmeaningfulâ), the new season and new shows are upon us. So, Are you interested in any new TV shows? What show will you be happiest to see return?
Of the new ones, Iâll probably check out âThe Bionic Woman.â Entertainment Weekly named it as a âpickâ and made it sound like an interesting âre-imagining.â Plus, Starbuck from âBattlestar Galacticaâ is on the first episode, apparently. Itâll be on at 9 p.m. Wednesdays on NBC, starting Sept. 26. Iâve also heard good things about âPushing Daisiesâ (8 p.m. Wednesdays on ABC, starting Oct. 3), created by Bryan Fuller. Iâm also curious about the post-Katrina New Orleans cop show âK-Villeâ (9 p.m. Tuesdays on Fox, starting Sept. 17). Iâm more skeptical about âCavemenâ (8 p.m. Tuesdays on ABC, starting Oct. 2), but I heard it takes place in Atlanta, so, you know.
Of the returning shows, my favorite is âThe Officeâ (9 p.m. Thursdays on NBC, starting Sept. 27), which returns with four one-hour episodes in a row. I also heard a weird rumor that there will be 30 episodes this season (instead of the customary 22 or so), and I hope they donât overdo it. The second and third seasons have both been great â Iâd hate it if the fourth one flagged because of overwork/flooding the marketplace. Iâm definitely a fan of â30 Rockâ (Oct. 4) and will probably stick with âMy Name Is Earlâ (Sept. 27), which are both Thursdays on NBC. I canât say I have much stake in âThe Simpsons,â but it comes back Sept. 23, and supposedly Spider-pig will be appearing at some point.
The funny â and unexpectedly convenient â thing is that none of the dramas I watch will be back until next year. âBattlestar Galactica,â âLostâ and â24â are all scheduled to come back in early 2008 (âLostâ I believe in February), although the âBattlestar Galacticaâ two-hour movie, Razor, (about the Pegasus) will air Nov. 24, last I heard. I donât watch âHeroes,â returning Sept. 24, but would love to get my hands on the Season 1 DVD. Anyway, having the hourlongs return in 2008 is handy because in November-December Iâll be playing catch-up with movies from 2007, so itâll be nice to have less competition for my sittinâ-around-watching-stuff time.
