DIRTY DOZEN BRASS BAND AT THE ECHO PROJECT MUSIC FESTIVAL: You don’t want to know where the third trumpet is.

The Echo Project was a three-day music festival on 350 acres of beautiful farmland in south Fulton County. Attendance was sparse, so there was plenty of room to spread out, see some great bands, and wander among the glass pipe vendors. The most energetic show I saw all weekend was Friday’s main stage performance by Cypress Hill. Lead rapper B-Real’s banter and insistence on crowd participation was infectious. And I think I witnessed more pot smoking, on stage and off, than I’ve ever been privy to.

I didn’t think the Flaming Lips’ set was all it was cracked up to be. I was ready for a party, but for me the allure lasted about three songs. Singer Wayne Coyne rolled on top of the crowd in his giant, see-through ball, but should a band really create excitement from props instead of music?
