News The Urban Gardener becomes drought victim

Atlanta's only intown, indie-inspired, organic-themed garden shop is drying up.
Best of Atlanta winner the Urban Gardener has been forced to give up its Grant Park digs because, in this time of shortened showers and outdoor water bans, selling outdoor plants suddenly has become passe.
The shop will be moving to a smaller space in East Atlanta Village and will change its focus. According to a statement sent out today:
Sales are down as much as 50-60% and businesses have been forced to cut hours and lay off employees. ... Owners Duane and Robin Marcustheywere forced to downsize and refocus their business in order to survive the devastating effects of the drought and consequent water ban. "We'll be concentrating on edible plants, which can still be watered, and container gardens that people can keep alive by recycling water from their baths, kitchens and laundry", the Marcuses said.
The store also will offer organic food and drinks, sustainably produced housewares, and fresh-cut flowers.
