DeKalb, Gwinnett, Rockdale streetscapes to get a facelift

Every year, the Georgia DOT doles out federal cash to streetscape projects aimed at "enriching the transportation experience." The federal government provides 80 percent of the funds and local government covers the remainder of the cost. - $1,000,000 to the City of Decatur for the South Candler St./College Ave./Trinity Ave. Intersection project to construct sidewalks and other pedestrian facilities as well as to close one small section of roadway to straighten the intersection at N. Candler and E. Howard

- $267,000 to the City of Stone Mountain for the East Mountain St. Sidewalk project which will add and upgrade sidewalks connecting MARTA and the downtown district to Georgia’s Stone Mountain park

- $235,000 to the City of Stone Mountain for the Stone Mountain Historic Railroad Station project to rehabilitate the historic railroad station in the City of Stone Mountain

- $100,000 to the Dekalb County for the Main Street Tucker Downtown Redevelopment project which includes widening sidewalks and adding lighting, street furniture and landscaping along Main St. in Tucker

- $475,000 to Dekalb County for the Northlake Area Streetscapes project which consists of pedestrian and landscape improvements in the vinicity of Northlake Mall along Briarcliff Rd., Henderson Mill Rd., and Northlake Pkwy.

- $300,000 to the City of Chamblee for the Peachtree Streetscape project to add pedestrian and bicycle facilities on Peachtree Rd. from Pierce Dr. to Broad St.

- $480,000 to the City of Decatur for the McDonough St./College Ave./E. Howard Ave. Intersections to include new sidewalks, crosswalks, pedestrian countdown signals, pedestrian gates, streetscaping and medians to improve multi-modal transportation flow and improve safety

- $471,000 to Gwinnett County for the Buford Hwy. Streetscaping to add sidewalks, transit shelters, and landscaping along the north side of Buford Hwy. from Amwiler Rd. to Jimmy Carter Blvd. which will create a safer and more attractive multi-modal corridor,

- $370,000 to the City of Norcross for the Norcross Downtown Streetscape II project which will provide streetscape improvements on Thrasher Street, beginning at Autry Street and ending at Jones Street/Park; and, S. Peachtree Street, beginning at Autry Street and ending at Holcomb Bridge Road

- $570,000 to the City of Lilburn for the Jackson Creek Trail Phase II project to construct a 10-foot wide hard surface trail adjacent to Jackson Creek beginning at Killian Hill Rd. and ending at Arcado Rd.,

- $780,000 to Rockdale County for the Rockdale River Trail Phase II project for the construction of a 12-foot wide, 1.2-mile long concrete multi-use trail and a trail bridge over the South River.
