It's official: Lenox will host Dogwood Festival

Posted by Scott Freeman on Fri, Feb 1, 2008 at 10:39 PM

We don't know how they'll get blooming dogwood trees onto the pavement at Lenox Square Mall, but that's where this year's version of the Dogwood Festival will be held. Organizers made the announcement today that the 72nd annual festival will move to Buckhead from its traditional spot in Piedmont Park, which is off-limits this year because of the drought.

It will be a different kind of atmosphere, for sure. Part of the fun of the festival is going out to Piedmont Park as spring bursts into the air. Will it inspire a one-for-all, all-for-one vibe? Or will it kill the entire vibe of the festival?

I will not be attending. I could go to the mall at any time. If they'd held it at Atlantic Station, that would have been better. Heck, even Centennial Park... but Lenox Mall!?!? Blech!

Great idea, don't show up and support independent artists and musicians because the drought forced the show to a site you don't like. I don't think you have the spirit of the event. BTW, neither of the sites you mention is big enough to host the festival. I have had to find alternate sites for large concert events in the past and it isn't easy. Honestly, I am surprised they found a venue. A concert festival for 100,000 - 200,000 people has a big enough budget to rent almost any site needed, I don't know how the Dogwood Festival did it. Kudos to them for pulling this thing off.
