Stop the TAD Law Changes

A Message from Stand Up DeKalb

Those developers are at it again. They want to use our tax dollars to fund their multi-million dollar projects that line their pockets at the expense of our neighborhoods and neighborhood schools. Both the Georgia House and Senate are proposing Constitutional amendments to reverse a unanimous ruling by the State Supreme Court to divert local education funds to be used to help support redevelopment projects. This tax financing scheme is known as TADS or Tax Allocation Districts. Since money knows no party affiliation, these bills have the support of both Democrats and Republicans. Please contact your Lt. Governor, Speaker of the House and local House and Senate members to OPPOSE passage of this Constitutional amendment. It will require a 2/3 vote of the House and Senate. If adopted before the General Assembly adjourns this winter, then voters will have a chance to reject it at the polls in November. But expect big-monied developers and cities eager to grab our tax dollars for their own benefit to launch a major advertising campaign to win voter approval. The time to stop it in its tracks is now. Don't let our school systems gamble with the funding for our schools. Make developers pay for their own infrastructure costs. Of all of the TADs enacted and generating funds in Georgia to date, most if not all of the funds were used to pay for developer infrastructure. Stop the developer welfare. Politicians only respond when they hear from you. Georgia League of Women Voters has contact info for all of the DeKalb delegation at:http://www.lwvdk.org/citizenguide2007.pdf
