A review of Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns

Posted by Andisheh Nouraee on Fri, Mar 21, 2008 at 7:15 PM

Because of, well, you know, I've been eager to read a review of Tyler Perry's Meet The Browns, which opens today.

New York-based journalist and blogger Clay Cane has penned one of the first.

Cane writes its Perry's worst film.

I've seen better storylines for a 1-800-MATTRESS commercial.

Nice.

Loved the cover story. Haven't read that level of groundbreaking investigative journalism in I don't know when. You mean to tell me men, white folks and others who aren't black women aren't likely to appreciate Tyler Perry? The devil you say! And because they're simplistic, heavy-handed and wrapped in Oprah-esque platitudes? Who knew? Oh, yeah--everyone except, apparently, Creative Loafing. Eagerly awaiting your next cover story--a hard-hitting expose on the fact that "Pokemon" appeals only to children and scary overweight card-collecting geeks! Stop the presses.

I know at least two film critics (who happen to be old friends of mine – we were in each other’s weddings) who liked ‘Meet the Browns): Dave White (give it a “B”) http://movies.go.com/meet-the-browns/r922699/drama Alonso Duralde http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23748831/

"I've seen better storylines for a 1-800-MATTRESS commercial." Actually, those commercials get to me...
