News MARTA statement regarding videotaped lunacy

According to MARTA, the passionate young lady who displayed a variety of talents in a video we posted yesterday has a warrant issued for her arrest.
“MARTA police were notified about this video last Friday and launched an immediate and aggressive investigation into the incident. After canvassing the East Lake Station where the suspect reportedly exited the train, we received an anonymous tip that this incident possibly occurred on March 31, 2008 between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The tipster also indicated the suspect has been known to ride Bus Route 22. MARTA police were able to positively identify the individual allegedly involved in this incident and have secured a warrant for her arrest.â€â€œWe want to assure the public that this is an extremely isolated incident and that customer safety and security are our highest priorities,†stated MARTA Chief of Police Wanda Dunham. “We regret that any customer had to endure such harassment while using our system. I also wish the many citizens who witnessed this incident would have contacted the MARTA police so that we could have responded to this situation immediately. We are asking that anyone who witnessed this incident please come forward to provide additional first hand information, which may lead to additional charges against the suspect. If you have any information about this incident, please contact MARTA Police Detectives at (404) 848-4911.â€
“MARTA police officers regularly patrol the trains and are available at rail stations to provide assistance. Emergency call buttons are also located in all rail cars, which go directly to the rail operator in case customers need to request immediate assistance. Customers can also reach MARTA Police communications directly by dialing (404) 848-4911 or by pressing #MPD on any AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint/Nextel cellular phone. Blackberry users press #673.â€

Hrm. A friend of mine (who still rides faithfully) was riding one night only to look next to her to see a man masturbating to her. She brought attention to rest of the car by screaming loudly, got off and called the Marta police, only to have the phone ring 31 times before it was answered and when they arrived they basically told her they couldn't do anything about it and left. However, she and I would agree this is NOT a typical experience, but we were both disappointed in the response received (or not received?)

I figure if I start dialing BEFORE I leave the house, maybe an hour or two before I have to go somewhere, I MAY have a chance to get through to... to an office/officer...uh.... where???? I moved from Atlanta in 2003 and have never looked back. I did return to visit family in 2006 and rode MARTA up to Doraville and was SHOCKED at the thuggery and gang activity on the trains at 4 p.m. Atlanta and the MARTA police need a wakeup call. This activity can't be tolerated and the City expect to grow/retain an upper and middle class population in the city. Such a degenerate. What ever happened to honoring your elders?
Sonny Perdue is considering whether or not to sign HB 257, which would allow people with concealed weapons permits to carry on MARTA. After seeing that video, I got off my butt and let him know that I think it is a good idea.

We have here a victim of the Al Sharpton\\\'s and Jesse Jacksons and reverend Spite\\\'s....uh or is that Wright\\\'s of this world. They stir up hatred and resentment and get rich off of it but we can see, in this girl, the damage it does to those who buy what they are peddling. I've taken public transit all over the world, and the MARTA is by far the scariest experience. These types of outbursts and incidents are actually fairly common and there is absolutely no security anywhere. Shame on the City of Atlanta and MARTA. I for one have decided not to take MARTA until concrete measures to stop this are put in place. Atlanta has so far to go...
"Smoov D" hit the nail on the head. I have a concealed carry permit and plan to be packing next time I get on MARTA (hopefully Gov. Purdue "does the right thang" and signs HB89--or whatever it is now).
The fact that this loud-mouthed nutcase can scream at an old woman so long, so boldly in front of many witnesses, proves that SHE thinks that MARTA trains are places where criminal activity is OK and there's no need to worry about police or security guards. It's the law of the jungle and she's the biggest baddest animal on the train. Even if she ultimately didn't get away with it, the fact that she THOUGHT she could proves that MARTA is unsafe and there needs to be a crackdown. Second point: Thank God (and GeorgiaCarry.Org) that soon sane people without criminal histories who have gun permits will be able to carry weapons on MARTA to defend themselves.
I think the saddest thing about this whole incident is that not ONE man had the balls to stand up to this crazy irate woman and let her scream obscenities at an elderly, defenseless lady. What has happened? It's a sad state of affairs for sure. Is everyone so scared for their own life that they cannot defend anyone else? All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing. You don't want this kind of behavior on the train, then get off your ass and do something about it. Quit blaming the transit authority and the police for not being there. There were men all around her who if they had half a ball sack could've stopped this bullshit as soon as it started!

This girl's behavior is deplorable and she should be punished, but allowing guns on MARTA is a terrible idea. Imagine this lunatic girl or other laughing/approving/apathetic passengers are all carrying concealed weapons too. Sounds like a pretty stupid suggestion to add to the mix. When will the rednecks and gun freaks learn that arming everyone with guns isn't the solution? I'm more afraid of rednecks with guns and vigilante justice than obnoxious animals. What would you do? Threaten to shoot someone with your CONCEALED weapon? Take it out or flash it? What if you did and she didn't stop? You think you should kill someone for acting obnoxious or verbally threatening someone? Tough little boys behind your keyboard -- try taking actions to resolving social issues with your brain instead of answering violence with more violence.

Honestly as a black female this video was very embarrassing but some of you posters showed how ugly and racist you really are. As soon as something despicable happens and it's concerning a person of color-all their actions represents everyone else of color! What ignorance! You didn't need a video to show your prejudices, did you?
To discover that there is a person using public transportation who has obvious mental problems should come as no surprise. The PUBLIC includes the full spectrum of human beings with human behaviors that attend. You have seen people of every hue behave very very badly--caught on tape, even. Statistically, it is quite likely that one of the posters here has anger control issues. You know who you are. What do you look like? Thank you MARTA for pursuing justice for the victims of agression. Better late than never.
