News Voting? Gotta register first

Monday.
That's when you need to be registered in order to vote in the fast-approaching July 15 primaries. Remember, you must also update your registration if you've moved.
How does one register? You can do it online at the Secretary of State's website (pdf) or you can go to your county's local elections office. Fulton's is in the downtown admin building at MLK and Pryor; DeKalb's is in the adjunct building across from the county jail at 4380 Memorial Drive.
What's at stake? Well, only the future of humanity. Actually, there are some important races and referendums. Among them:
- The Democratic nomination to challenge U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss in the fall
- DeKalb's next CEO – there are Republicans, so it will be decided in the Democratic primary
- Cityhood (or not) for Dunwoody – but you can only vote if you live there
- Two seats on the powerful Public Service Commission, which sets our utility rates
- And, finally, contested primary races for various state legislators.
In Georgia, of course, we don't register with one party or the other, meaning you can vote in either the Democratic or Republican primary. But choose wisely, because you can't switch back if there's a runoff.
