Palin to secessionists: "Keep up the good work."

Posted by Andisheh Nouraee on Wed, Sep 3, 2008 at 3:54 PM

Even though I don't share its Republican political leanings, I appreciate Peach Pundit because its not only informative, but because it has several contributors who aren't afraid to call B.S. on fellow Republicans.

Until recently, anyway.

Video surfaced yesterday of Sen. John McCain's running mate Gov. Sarah Palin telling the secessionist Alaskan Independence Party to "keep up the good work."

[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZwvPNXYrIyI" width="425" height="350" wmode="transparent" /]

Keep up what good work? The work of breaking up the United States of America?

If a video surfaced of a Democrat telling secessionists to "keep up the good work," Peach Pundit contributors would give themselves carpal tunnel syndrome demanding the Democrat leave the ticket. If video surfaced of Sen. Barack Obama telling members of the Weather Underground to "keep up the good work," they'd be calling for his head.

There is literally nothing less patriotic than encouraging people to break apart the country.

But instead of expressing this at Gov. Sarah Palin, my friends at Peach Pundit are doubling-down on her candidacy.

In a post titled "The ‘high-tech lynching’ of Sarah Palin.", the normally non-hyperbolic Peach Punditeer Buzz Brockway absurdly claims Palin is the victim of a smear campaign

In reality, she's the victim of a "maverick" who added her to the national ticket without considering the consequences.

How can you root for a campaign whose slogan is "Country First" and still support the selection of a novice governor who tells secessionists to "keep up the good work?"

Andi, What's being done to Palin is astounding. The video you posted shows her identifying areas of agreement (not secession) with a group she calls "opponents," and cordially welcoming them to Fairbanks. Yet many reported as late as yesterday that Palin was a former member of the group and this bunch of wackos represented her true values, which was simply false. Numerous other reports about Palin have been since proven false and most of it has been debunked by someone making a few simply phone calls. If that's not a smear campaign I don't know what is.

Ummm you mean stories that McCain is raising as a straw horse? Yea how dare the press focus on Palin's 4 month old really being here daughter! What you mean no mainstream or even alternative (exclusive of bloggers) news source has written that story? Fact is if Obama was congratulating the secessionist party he would be crucified. Fact is bringing the 18 year old who got your 17 year old daughter pregnant to the convention is not the type of family values I would want my teenagers to emulate. Fact is she was a mayor of a town of less than 9,000 before becoming gov very recently through a fluke of circumstances. Fact is NO ONE or very few have ever heard of her. Of course the media is going in a feeding frenzy they have years and years of work to compress into months. This is a very scary time for our country, how someone of such limited academic AND work experience can be #2 on the ticket is beyond me. But I sympathize, McCain is right the republican party is so corrupt that this is probably the only Republican they can find who doesn't share some of the blame for where we are today.

Andi, you sexist pig, you! And DaleC, what are those "fluky circumstances" of which you speak? Throwing out ad hominem attacks is incredibly easy, like John McCain feasts on the the blood of 3-year olds, and Sarah Palin is really a man...your point?

I think he's referring to the time when the Cubs were only 5 outs away from their first World Series appearance in almost 100 years, and an oblivious Steve Bartman leaned over the railing to knock a foul ball out of the reach of Moises Alou, allowing Obama to go on and win the Illinois Senate race against a carptebagging Alan Keyes.
