According to the American Public Transportation Association, Atlanta boasted the second highest ridership increase in the nation on its heavy-rail system during the second quarter of 2008. (But we're first when it comes to singlehood, y'all!) Nationwide, the number of trips on heavy rail increased 4.3 percent. Light-rail saw the biggest increase of all transportation modes in the second quarter of this year, with 12.3 percent more trips than average.

You know it! Especially because, as a lover of well-sourced info and a single male, I think the Forbes's list-icle is utter nonsense.

that's pretty awesome. i filled up this weekend and noticed the price of gas is down considerably since i last filled up. i hope these increased riders stick around even if gas prices continue to lower....which they will.

That's my fear, too. I think once gas prices dip a bit, more people will begin driving, demand will increase and prices will rise, and we'd be in the same mess we were when gas hit $4 a gallon. This is the time cities should truly look into improving service and keeping new riders coming back.

I love how people now seem to think that 3 dollar gas is cheap! Even 2.50 is kinda expensive, 5 short years ago we were paying well under 2 dollars.
