How many words is this worth? More than a thousand, but, really, it's unquantifiable genius.
AccessNorthGa.com's best news graphics don't just illustrate or elaborate a story -- they become the story. Using a complex graphical algorithm that attracts, confuses, amuses, delights and then intrigues readers, these bizarre Photoshop Frankensteins can add surprising appeal to a small-town news story. They're the only reason I followed this summer's rabies outbreaks in Hall County or knew about various North Georgia manhunts and car crashes.
And I keep coming back to AccessNorthGa.com for more. The creative flow has slowed considerably the last couple months, although the site does still occasionally reuse some classics. But since this is Best of Atlanta week, let's review ANG's hits of 2008. The top 15 are after the jump, in very little particular order.

Of course, they had to have a not-so-very-hidden bottle of Jose Cuervo tequila... how can anyone enjoy that?
Um, you forgot ... BURNING CHILD http://www.accessnorthga.com/detail.php?n=211047&c=10 and TEEN HIT BY CAR http://www.accessnorthga.com/detail.php?n=211074&c=10 I love it that despite reports of the teen "doing well," he's depicted as a chalk drawing. Classic.
voter turnout: zombie versions of the same two people will eat you while you sleep.
Wow, thanks for preventing those snubs, Mara. The deathless chalk outline definitely deserves a place on the list. And I've never even seen the lighter and building blocks one before. That gives me hope there are more gems out there I just missed.
I'm pretty sure the couple in "Online Sex" are doing it wrong.

I just remembered another one I left off the list. This was pointed out to me a while back by my colleague and fellow ANG enthusiast Thomas Wheatley. http://www.accessnorthga.com/detail.php?n=211314 I think they're the same zombie couple from Voter Turnout. Also, thanks for restoring my faith, bonitis. I should've known better than to doubt ANG.
Best part of the one Russell McLendon linked to? The article is about "Healthy Marriages", but damned if that doesn't look like two women gazing soulfully into each other's eyes. While I'm all for equal marriage rights, I'm not sure that's what the newspaper intended.
