Poll: Georgia slightly favors McCain, Chambliss... and welcomes Barnes back?

Posted by Thomas Wheatley on Tue, Oct 21, 2008 at 1:45 PM

A recent Democracy Corps poll focused on Georgia shows a slight 46-44 margin for John McCain over Barack Obama and a 48-44 margin for U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss over Democratic challenger Jim Martin.

But it was a question about the 2010 Governor's race that caught my eye:

Q.32 I know it's a long way off, but thinking ahead to 2010, if the general election for Governor were held today, and the candidates were: Democrat Roy Barnes and Republican Karen Handel, for whom would you vote -- Democrat Roy Barnes or Republican Karen Handel?

Roy Barnes............................................................................ 43

Lean Roy Barnes.................................................................... 5

Karen Handel ....................................................................... 26

Lean Karen Handel ............................................................... 9

(Undecided)........................................................................... 16

Total Roy Barnes............................................................... 49

Total Karen Handel............................................................ 35

This song immediately pops in my head.

Full poll available here. (PDF warning)

(Gracious tip of the beret to Andre Walker at Georgia Politics Unfiltered for passing along the poll.)

Well, well, well. Those teachers who got all pissed off at Roy are probably regretting getting in Bubba Perdue now that they're going to axe automatic COLAs for the TRS.
