Wannabe lawmaker Jim Martin cavorts with felon

Posted by Andisheh Nouraee on Tue, Dec 2, 2008 at 4:57 PM

If he's going to win the run-off, Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Jim Martin needs to convince Obama enthusiasts who voted for him on November 4 to return to the polls again today.

To reach out to those Obama supporters, many of whom are young and black, Martin held a pep rally yesterday featuring a handful of big-name hip-hop stars.

Among them was rapper T.I.

T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, Jr., is a very popular entertainer.

He's also a serial felon.

In March, he pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges. He will begin a prison sentence next year.

At the moment, he's performing 1,000 hours of court-ordered "community service" — which thus far appears to consist of promoting nasty tequila-and-champagne hangovers, and giving speeches in front of high school students and AJC photographers.

By courting the endorsement of a not-especially repentant felon, Martin is signaling profound indifference to the law — a rather puzzling signal to be sending when you're vying for a seat in the country's highest lawmaking body.

Even worse is the insulting message Harris' appearance with Martin sends to Obama supporters.

"Hey, black people! T.I. likes me! You should, too!"

Puke.

How stereotypical is a racist white want to be writer convey a message that TI represent all black folk. For years, many racist whites (KKK) stood up for their lawmakers and the same can be said. Oops, I am being stereotypical. Hip Hop, Country, Hollywood...people are people.

Those Repug PAC ads were rather uninspired with their attempts to turn Martin into Gollum for the benefit of the Little People still taken in by Big TV political ads. By the time they can turn any video craftwork of Martin and T.I. Da Felon around, Saxby'll be back on the back nine. Personally, I always wondered why they never photoshopped Martin into a MARTA seat alongside Soulja Gal.

Davis - you must have posted on the wrong column. The writer is pointing out the idiocy of the white politician thinking that he will encourage the majoriy of black people to vote for him by hanging with scumbags like T.I. After reading the rest of your non-sensical post, I can only say... puff-puff-PASS my man....pass
