Omnivore - Some post-surgical Friday highlights

Last week wasn’t a lot of fun. I had oral surgery that made eating unpleasant for a few days — unless it was eating pain pills, which turned me into a zombie.

By Friday I was feeling better and had a day of inexpensive, good eating. First, my regular Friday lunch date, Brad, and I went to one of our usuals — Eclipse di Luna, where I tried this mouth-friendly special of carpaccio topped with butternut squash and fried onions (above).

We also sampled a special of melon gazpacho with shrimp. Both were delicious. Our server, Ghali, who recently returned from a visit to his native Morocco, was great.

That evening, Wayne and I went to hear Aimee Mann at Variety Playhouse in Little Five Points — not the best concert I’ve ever attended, although I liked her opening act, The Submarines, a lot. We hit the nearby La Fonda Latina on McLendon Avenue for a late dinner afterward.

I had my usual favorite here, the paella — an inexpensive version of the real thing, served in an iron skillet and usually quite tasty. Wayne had his favorite, the Cuban-style grilled chicken.
