On Monday, state Sen. Seth Harp, R-Midland, tried to revive a bill that would allow cities and counties to vote whether they wanted to purchase alcohol in stores on Sundays. It was shot down.
Courtesy of the Senate Press Office, here's video of the lawmaker's valiant effort. UPDATE: Well, the freedom haters are sabotaging my attempts to embed the video. Here's the link. Get ready to shed a tear.
Harp told lawmakers that a poll taken in one of Georgia's most religious counties found more than 60 percent of respondents supported Sunday sales. In metro Atlanta, he said, support for the measure was more than 90 percent a statistic which I think is hilarious.

Unbelievable that they continue to vote down something that would be a referendum! I would think thats the easiest thing to vote on....letting the voters come out and decide. This is so overdue, its appalling.
The freedom haters are sabotaging you? That's a bit harsh! As the person in charge of posting this video, I can assure you that it was posted in order to demonstrate Senator Harp's passion for the passage of the legislation. My position with the Senate requires me to remain politically neutral - so I will simply assure you and all of your readers that we use a method of posting these videos in high quality so that they can be easily accessed and shared by the public at large, as well as by organizations such as Creative Loafing who don't have the ability to send their own camera crews to the Capitol to capture issues that they feel are important to their readers. Alternately, you can also access our video through YouTube by typing "Georgia State Senate" in the search bar. From here you can also find the video of Senator Harp, available in Hi-Definition if you have a broadband connection. We offer two solutions in case one of the sites we post to is experiencing difficulty due to a high volume of traffic. I welcome the opportunity to assist Creative Loafing with access to any of our available content whenever I can. You may reach me through the Senate Press Office at 404-656-0028 at any time. Sincerely, Michael Monahan Senate Press Office Deputy Director Georgia General Assembly
The fact that these buffoons will not even let the citizens of Georgia vote on this is beyond pathetic! Let the people decide. I don't need a bunch of country-bumpkin legislators deciding what is best for me.
Michael, baby! It was just a joke. By "freedom haters," I meant the nefarious characters lurking in the shadows of the Internet who attempt to squash Harp's stirring speech. That jab wasn't aimed at the Senate Press Office, whom I commend for posting the videos and info. (I think it was more a technical problem with Vimeo accessing WordPress on our end as I was able to post the video directly to my personal blog.)
can we get a list of legislators who voted against sunday sales, please?
Correction: As my dear colleague Scott Henry pointed out a moment ago, I wasn't clear on this. The link below shows you the senators who voted on the amendment that removed Harp's Sunday Sales language from the bill. If someone voted "no," that means they favored Harp's language and wanted it to pass. Adelman, Fort, everyone with a "N" by their name they supported Harp. @Wesley, Here's the list of senators.
