Today's New York Times features a story by Shaila Dewan about Atlantic Station's Millenium Arch.

Because the arch was near a large blue and yellow furniture store, some people nicknamed it the Arc d’Ikea.

All this time I thought they called it that because it was shipped flat and assembled with a hex wrench.

My favorite part, emphasis added:

Though the arch is new, it has already attained a milestone that other monuments take decades to achieve: no one is quite sure what it is about. “It’s supposed to commemorate something,” said Kim Baskerville, 35, who lives nearby. “Probably dead Confederates,” said Don Robinson, 64, a retired air traffic control assistant, who was recently waiting at a bus stop near the arch.

It's a millenial piece o' crap is what it is - We have a few of these random things about town...like the red tower Olympic torch along the connector...what is that all about?
