Mary Norwood throws her hair, er, hat into the ring

Posted by Scott Henry on Fri, Feb 15, 2008 at 11:27 PM

Buckhead City Councilwoman Mary Norwood — she of the first-lady-style suits and helmet hair — today kicked off her long-expected run for Atlanta mayor with an apparent makeover. Judge for yourself:

Before and.......After

OK, so her new look isn't the big news here, but it will certainly be noted by anyone who's grown accustomed over the years to Norwood's dependable Talbots-and-Aqua Net aesthetic.

Anyway, the energetic councilwoman announced the rollout of a 120-member "exploratory committee" to survey the prospects of a Norwood mayoral campaign. Since she's spent the past year holding town-hall meetings in virtually every neighborhood in town, we assume the committee is a formality and she's already made up her mind to run in next year's race.

Her likely opponents include Council President Lisa Borders, Councilman Ceasar Mitchell and state Sen. Kasim Reed. Possibles include Fulton County Commissioner Robb Pitts and talk-radio host Clark Howard.

Mary Norwood's incompatible infill position is damaging to NW Atlanta neighborhoods. If you live in a nice , new house, Norwood didn't want you around.

The Dream Team June 16th, 2009 10:11 am Wake UP Call! Lisa, Mary, and Kasim let the voters decide who will be the next Mayor of Atlanta and stop these amateurism antics and advise your staff that they are playing a dangerous game. I find it hilarious that you would each have the same slime-ball on payroll. You may also want to review you staffing plans EACH of you have a mole operating in your campaigns. Politics 101 Furthermore, Lisa and Kasim you both will NEVER be Mayor of Atlanta, because you are disingenuous and have delusions of grandeur. Mary will also get 20% of the African-American vote. Not because she is a great candidate, but largely due to the fact that Blacks are sick of elitist, pompous, arrogant, self-serving black leadership, which has further disenfranchised our communities! No jobs, exorbant foreclosures, and HIGH CRIME. Shirley Franklin did not make any of us proud. She made us weep. Glen and Jessie, I applaud your efforts and campaign to take these monsters! Remember the reason they fear you and Jessie Spikes is because they realize the two of you will stripe away too many black votes, thus eliminating the potential for a Run-off which they will also lose by large margins. Mary will get 70% of the white vote and 20% of the black vote. Thus, keep up the good work. Mayor Norwood for Mayor! Kudo’s we get a 2-for-1 with Clair Muller for President. The Dream Team

Mary Norwood has a considerable amount of support from the Black Community. Most believe she is genuine, hard-working and results-oriented. She might just be the 1st White Mayor since before the rein of the late, great Maynard Jackson, who in the minds of many will forever be THE Mayor of Atlanta. Kasim Reed is certainly a forminable candidate. Unfortunately for him, he is being supported by Maynard Jackson's daughter. The irony is that every candidate she supports, never wins.
