Oxendine says he'll run abortion providers out of state

Posted by Thomas Wheatley on Sat, May 16, 2009 at 12:54 AM

John Oxendine likes the Twitterz. He loves the insurance moniez (but gives it back). And he hates the abortionz.

A video uploaded to YouTube three days ago — but filled with heady rhetoric from 2002 — shows the GOP gubernatorial candidate addressing people in what appears to be a subdivision clubhouse. Or maybe it's a Rooms To Go showroom. Regardless, it's creepy.

In the video, Oxendine says if elected he'll "make it so uncomfortable that Planned Parenthood is not going to be able to operate in this state and they're going to start losing money, and we're going to make it economically difficult for them...Yes, they will be out of business in Georgia. They will leave the State of Georgia." He then says Planned Parenthood is a business and "they're in it to make money. Cue the "they don't mind killing babies" shortly thereafter. (3:45 in the video)

You have to wonder which voting bloc Oxendine is trying to court these days. He thinks the state should discuss privatizing MARTA. He decorates his child's nursery "Confederate Gray." He says he would've been the first sponsor on a bill that affirms states' rights and flirts with secession. (Someone tell The Ox his first act as President of the newly created Country of Georgia should be to allow "foreign nationals" — aka "an insurance company in Texas named Torchmark" or PACs in Birmingham, Ala. — to legally make campaign contributions.)

Oxendine knows he has no chance in Atlanta. The more reasonable metro Atlanta Republicans will probably vote for Secretary of State Karen Handel. Eric Johnson will receive votes from whomever he can pander to the hardest. Austin Scott's rugged good looks will be pasted in cubicles and rally his constituents in the enormous city of Tifton. Hell, even Politico doesn't know what Nathan Deal looks like, so best of luck to you, good sir!

Yes, it's very clear — Oxendine's going for the crazies.

It would be a hoot if this guy made it to the general election. A crook and a crazy. I don't know what's in the water that makes some of these people say some of the things they say.

Oxendine is sick and completely out-of-touch with the average Atlantan. He talks like some back-country country club member.

I haven't lived in Georgia all that long (9 - 10 months), but it seems to me that being "completely out-of-touch with the average Atlantan" is absolutely necessary to win a GOP primary in this state. WF

So he would spend all of his time, money and resources on removing Planed Parenthood instead of creating ways to ween kids off of unprotected sex. Typical conservative -- buries his head in the sand while he attempts to establish a Christian form of the Taliban right here in Georgia.
