News Word: Black, like us

Earlier this week, a memo by African American political operative Aaron Turpeau calling on black leaders to join forces to ensure the election of a black mayor injected controversy into, well, the mayor’s race.
“The view that the times are too serious to stand on the sidelines is absolutely correct from the perspective of a black mayor at all cost. In fact, if a white candidate were to win the 2009 mayoral race, it would be just as significant in political terms as Maynard Jackson’s victory in 1973.”

why are people so suprised that that rich and powerful black people behave like rich and powerful white people?

mary norwood is better off letting people judge her by race than her qualifications. you can get more votes as a white woman than as an idiot.
Faux Kasim, I'm still laughing at your barbed joke about Mary. It's a bit mean of you to call yourself Kasim, though. You know he's too smooth even to allow himself to think something like that. OTOH, where's your evidence that idiots don't get majority votes? Look at Sonny. Look at many long-serving Atlanta council members - Clair, Carla, Jim, Lamar and my own favorite Lisa ....
Our bourgeoisie has done a miserable job for many years of selecting their token political representatives. Whatever happened to 'noblesse oblige'? Wooddruff and his ilk knew how to pick 'em. While that was a strong list of incompetents in the last post - Carla Smith is very hard to beat - it is woefully incomplete without Cleta Winslow, who can hold her own with anyone when it comes to random and inane assertions. Rumor has it that Jim Maddox has withdrawn. The question is: was he sleepwalking during the announcement?
