Tom Baxter of the Southern Political Report attended a Tuesday morning press conference held by Dr. Keith Jennings and Dr. William Boone of Clark Atlanta University, the authors of the well-publicized memo that some say suggests black voters needed to rally around one African-American candidate in the upcoming mayoral election. The academics say the media's pulled snippets from the memo which was not meant to be publicized or endorse a candidate and missed the point.
Baxter writes on Insider Advantage:
Were being called racist, when in fact if you read the entire document and the conclusions that we draw, it is very clear that were being accused of the exact opposite of what we did. We presented an analysis that says you should look at and evaluate all these candidates very carefully, said Dr. Keith Jennings, who authored the memo with Dr. William Boone, dean of graduate studies at Clark Atlanta University.The two professors said they were asked to make a presentation to the Black Leadership Forum, but the memo doesnt represent the views of that group. They said they werent advocating that black voters coalesce around City Council president Lisa Borders, the African-American candidate who is closest to Norwood in recent polls.

Media sure missed this point from the memo. Of course, Borders misses it, too. The persistent poverty in the city, the educational crisis in the schools; the human security/public safety concerns; the type of economic development policies being pursued; and the citys awful financial management issues;
CAU should fire these guys. They still won't admit they were wrong. What an embarassment to the univeristy.
after they put their gaff back in the bottle and then get fired, maybe they can get a job catching murderers at clark.
Or perhaps the real point is this "Developers Back Reed, Borders with Big Bucks" - The Atlanta Progressive News http://atlantaprogressivenews.com/news/0503.html Good analysis. Mary tells them to "follow the money." She is much less bought than the other two, probably her strongest point.
