Norwood to challenge election results

Posted by Scott Henry on Wed, Dec 2, 2009 at 6:08 PM

Mary Norwood called a press conference this morning to announce she would push for a recount. The AJC has the deets.

Her bid apparently hinges on provisional ballots, which are those cast by voters who show up to the polls without the required photo ID. Their votes are set off to the side and not counted unless the voter returns within two days to prove eligibility.

Norwood is wasting no time in urging supporters who cast provisional ballots to get their photo ID ready. This just went up on her Facebook page:

Atlanta, if you voted a provisional ballot, we need to hear from you. Email me your Name /Address / Phone/email contact to mary@marynorwoodformayor.com

Here's what the Secretary of State's website says these wacky provisional ballots:

If you do not have one of the six forms of photo identification you can go to your county registrar’s office or to any Department of Driver Services office, and get your free Georgia Voter Identification Card, present it to your county registrar’s office within two days after the election, and your provisional ballot will be counted.

Good for her! All votes need to be counted.
