Morning Newsdome: Anthrax and SARS and trans fats -- oh my! December 07 2009

A round-up of today’s news from around the world

>> This must make the president sleep easier at night. Threats against Barack Obama’s life spiked initially when he first took office, but have “leveled off in recent months ... he now receives about the same as his two most recent predecessors.” Not so calming when you think of the number of death threats Bush must have had. (the New York Times)

>> The Florida House will vote on a bill that will clear the way for the SunRail commuter rail linking Orlando and Tampa, hauling Floridians from one tiresome place to the next. If this gets built before the Beltline, Atlanta should feel very embarrassed. (AP via ABC News)

>> The Obama administration is cutting its estimate of losses from the financial bailout package by about $200 billion after Wall Street firms recovered quicker than expected and several initiatives used smaller funds. That’s only a loss of about $141 billion over the next 10 years. Woo hoo! (the Washington Post)

>> The Obama administration has released a handful of TV and radio ads today encouraging Americans to receive swine flu vaccinations. Hopefully the White House will take a note from The Gap, the arbiter of middle-America-targeting ads, in their campaign: “Everybody with Swine Flu.” (the Washington Post)

>> And finally, feeling as nostalgic as we are now that the 00’s (or aughties as they’re being called) are coming to a close? Well walk with ABC News, won’t you, in a trip down memory lane of the top 10 health scares of the decade. Who could forget anthrax, SARS, or my favorite, cell phone radiation. (ABC News)
