Lawmakers opposed to Milton County use unfortunate acronym to express view

The comedy show known as the "Georgia House of Representatives Resolutions" roars ahead like a wolverine on meth. Today we take a look at House Resolution 1115, introduced on Jan. 14 by state Reps. Joe Heckstall, D-East Point, and Tyrone Brooks, D-Atlanta. Frankly, we're offended by the graphic nature of this one. It reads:

WHEREAS, the members of this body recognize that the major issues that must be addressed during this legislative session are water, annexation, revenue, and transportation (WART); and

WHEREAS, WART effects individuals, families, and businesses throughout Georgia, and reaching a consensus in the legislature on these issues is vital to the future of this state; and

WHEREAS, similar to growths on an individual's body, if ignored and untreated, WARTs can spread to other areas and infect the entire organism; and

No, no "and," we'll just stop you right there. WART! Worst acronym ever proposed. Worst Acronym Representatives Tried.

The resolution sits, like a metaphorical untreated raised surface on the skin, in the House. Which is where it might stay.

If lawmakers sign off on the resolution, they'd be agreeing with the different parts of this WART. One of those — "annexation" — specifically deals with the controversial proposal by North Fulton lawmakers to cut ties with the county and reform Milton County.

Heckstall and Brooks, who represent parts of Fulton that would be impacted by the northern suburbs' secession, oppose that proposal.

Considering that House Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones hails from Alpharetta and has pushed for Milton County's reformation for years, we doubt this resolution will go anywhere.
