Fake weed is a helluva non-drug

Posted by Thomas Wheatley on Thu, Mar 4, 2010 at 6:16 PM

Two Roswell teens were hospitalized Sunday for smoking that fake-ass bud, the AJC reports.

Synthetic pot, known on the street as K2 or Spice, was what put the teens in the hospital, Roswell Police Lieutenant James McGee said.

The hospital called the Roswell police, who sent an officer to investigate, McGee said. Officials ran the usual tests for methamphetamines, marijuana and cocaine, and all came up “negative,” McGee said.

“We were trying to figure out what they were on,” he said.

“After questioning them, they said they were smoking Spice, and at the time, our officers didn’t have a clue as to what Spice was.”

The product, which is sold in smoke shops, is marketed as incense. But some crafty folks smoke it in an attempt to get high. Tuesday's WSB-TV report titled "Powerful 'fake pot' sold in Georgia" probably helped boost sales 4,000 percent. State lawmakers will try to ban this menace, as they did marijuana-flavored lollipops, in 5...4...3...

Full disclosure: Your humble correspondent, who at one time lived in Cobb County where you'd eat sand just to escape the drudgery, once tried this product. It gave him a headache.

I think you're supposed to let the stuff age some before you try smoking it. Know why?

K2 is a synthetic THC no studies or test have been done on the long-term effects it has on the body. Anyone who smokes this stuff is rolling the dice with their life.

is the reason why you have to age it due to the fact is has acetone sprayed on it to activate the chemicals that are put on the plants? By chemicals I mean Bonzai fertilizer....

ok "aging" is only required if u buy this off the street, as yes they use acetone to put the "special ingredients" on it. Although, a good supplier will have aged it for you. Hence, no need if u get it from a head shop. And it has been around since 1995, i mean smoking anything leads to cancer....so what more risks could there be, that hasn't showed up in 15 years???

I wish people would be more careful. My friends were telling me about some sort of blueberry K2 incense and I googled it and found out it is counterfeit. Apparently there are only a few authentic blends so the list of fakes is scary long and they don't quite know what is in those, http://www.k2incense.org. It's worth checking out if you buy this or know someone who does. Stay safe.....

I just came home from the ER with my 17 yr old son, who had a severe tripped out reaction. Is it worth it? I just lost my husband two months ago in the same ER and then I have to watch my son use this crap, because he thinks it's a "safe" way to forget his father's death. Please, people!
To swim: no side effect after 15 yrs of use? The fact that you make that claim, proves brain damage! Go get a brain scan, then see if the chemicals haven't eaten holes in it...

I am a dedicated pot smoker, a very dedicated pot smoker. My friend introduced me to "spice" just last month, i tried it and I was impressed by the "kind bud" like THC high I got off of it. He sent some home with me, and I started mixing it in my pot. I must say, my body is not reacting well to it. I didn't have any for a month then I got a new supply from that same friend in the mail just a few days ago. I've been smoking about 3 bowls a day for 3 or 4 days now and long story short: I had to call off work the last two days because my stomach is MESSED up. I love marijuana, but this kind of stuff, this "spice" is not marijuana. It can be sprayed on anything smokable from tobacco to cat nip. be warned- sick now for 2 days and not feeling better yet. What have I done?

My daughter who recently turned 21 tried "spice" at the encouragement of a so called friend. She had to call me from a resturant parking lot because she was too afraid to drive home. Her heart was beating way to fast, feeling hot then cold, and she told me later about an outer body experience she had. That was December 2010. It's April 2011 and she's still having phychotic issues and having to take phychotic meds to get through the day because of the voices and feelings of depression and suicide. People PLEASE, if you value your life and sanity, do not use this drug. If youre a habitual user now, it's only a matter of time.

I've been smoking pot for about three years now and I've quit cold turkey for 3 months before. I was thinking of quitting again for better job opportunities etc., when I was introduced to spice. The guy said it was supposed to be a marijuana substitute. Gets you high but doesn't show up in your system. So I thought, perfect.

Me and my boyfriend bought a sample of some (about a bowl worth) and we hit the bowl twice each to make sure we got the full effect of it. WOW... we should have hit it once. It was like smoking pot for the first time EVER out of something with a chamber the size of your head.
It was a little too powerful for us.

@Talidemon

I can say that's what your daughter experienced was too much. We had the hot, cold, sweaty palms thing going on as well... Maybe she smoked an entire blunt or an entire bowl. It scared her.... and I know you don't wanna believe it cause she's your baby and blah blah, but she's probably been having depression and suicide issues. That's why she turned to drugs. I can promise you, that her and that "so called friend" has done a lot worse than spice... Let's be realistic.. But she freaked.
That's what you're not supposed to do. In college you know a lot of people with those kinds of issues, so I know those little voices in her head were already there. I used to volunteer to counsel and help people with depression and suicide issues. (i sometimes would take a trip (or watch one) with these kind of people to make sure they don't freak like your daughter.. It's called a controlled environment. Their idea and choice of course). I don't anymore. I'm over baby sitting. But anyway. . .

You can NEVER allow a trip of any kind to go down. If it's too much for you the best thing to do is talk to whoever you're with and ride it out. Cause once you smoke it there's no turning back for at least an hour. My boyfriend and I ended up watching like 7 episodes of That 70's Show to keep us level. The first two shows we were talking here and there waiting for the high to come down so we could be as lifted as we wanted. Once we got to that part, we were fine. The body relaxation high on the come down was beyond amazing...

We can only hit that particular spice once, but other kinds of spice we'd have to hit it twice or a lot more.
I've realized it works just like pot, some brands are a lot stronger and cost more...
Like with anything, proceed with caution.

it's not real weed and I'm going to miss smoking the real reefa.... but I'm down for this substitute.
At least for now.
I've worked with a lot different kinds of people realized they are gonna do what they want, I'm not telling anyone to try it or not to. I'm just saying if you're curious and you wanna know the real.

I've switched over (for now) but I'm also not abusing the stuff either..
So i hope this helps...

You guys who smoke this shit are idiots!!! Sorry for putting it so bluntly but someone has to.. Ive seen what this does to people first hand watching my brothers friends. Your behavior changes drastically, you cant carry a conversation without losing for train of though every few seconds, you get angry for no reason, vomit, etc.. the list just goes on and on... Its sad that people will smoke anything just to get a buzz; is your life that bad?? People have died from this stuff and its only gonna get worse because more and more people keep trying this and more and more people will drop like flies. Smoke pot its soo much better for you!!!! How many people have died from pot in the past 1000 years?? The answer is ZERO!! Spice has already claimed 10 victims if not more in the news in the last few months alone! Theres probably more that havent been reported as spice just based on facts that the parents or hospital didnt know about it.. Its NOT a safe alternative to pot.. If you have to quit smoking pot for a little to get a job or for any other reason, then do it! Its not worth puting your life at risk for a bs drug!! This is coming from someone who smokes pot for 10 years and can say that I havent experienced half the bs in my 10 years compared to what I have seen happen this summer alone!!! Your life should be worth more to you!!

Hi, im only 19 and recently fell under the influence of this drug. I honestly had no idea the drug was going affect me that way. i woke up in the hospital feeling all confused and sick. And the first damn thing that popped in my mind was, What day it was and did i miss school. Im not an avid smoker, so im guessing i got the worse effects of it. Its been a day since it happened and my stomach is still raw and the headache is still there. My body is sore and i have scratches every where. I now question myself every minute as to why i even tried it…. What a way to bring in the new year, right? I just wanted to share my fucked up experience. And hopefully others will read and be some what informed.

I just tried this "Spice" last night. My boyfriends cousin gave us some to try....I didn't like it AT ALL. I instantly became paranoid to to a completely different level, I felt like I was about to have an anxiety attack. My heart was beating very rapidly also. My boyfriend thought I was about to freak out. I have NEVER felt this way smoking weed. NEVER. It scared me. After about 30-45 mins the feeling went away and with my boyfriends help I calmed down. I Instantly knew this wad not the kind of feeling I was supposed to be having..

I tried Spice about a year ago and it was great. I tried it this weekend and I thought I was going to die. I couldn't move, I couldn't speak to tell anyone what was happening, my blood pressure shot up, and I thought I would never stop throwing up. I have been a marijuana smoker for thirty years and have never had an experience like this. This scared the hell out of me! I would rather give up weed than go through this experience again.

I have dabbled in spice and came to like a a particuar brand MR. HAPPY. It was very similar to pot. Well it got banned in my area, so I had to start taking road trips to other places. They didn't have Mr. Happy or Black MaMba the two I was familiar with. They sold me two kinds TIGER SPICE and HAMMERHEAD. My experience with these was MUCH MUCH different. I found myself losing my footing, bumping into walls, slurring or saying the wrong words, etc. It is a different kind of buzz altogether, more like smoking crack that bud. If you can find real Mr. Happy I recommend that, be careful on anything else.
