Report: Metro Atlanta employment outlook among weakest in nation

Posted by Thomas Wheatley on Tue, Mar 9, 2010 at 3:58 PM

You try to come up with witty one-liners and creative ways to introduce this news, but you can't.

From the Atlanta Business Chronicle:

Metro Atlanta employers plan to add staff at a “reserved” pace in the second quarter, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey published March 9.

The report, which tracks national and local employment trends, also noted metro Atlanta’s employment outlook is one of the weakest in the nation.

From April to June, 9 percent of the metro Atlanta companies interviewed plan to hire more employees, while 11 percent expect to trim their payrolls. Another 78 percent expect to keep current staff levels and 2 percent are not certain of their hiring plans.

The metro regions with the strongest outlook? Anchorage, Ala., and Burlington, Vt. UPDATE: The embedded PDF doesn't want to cooperate. Visit this link to download a list of the strongest and weakest metropolitan areas.

But I thought the region's forward-thinking investments in eduction, transportation and urban-planning were going to bring jobs. Oh, wait, I was thinking of not Atlanta.

Pretty sure there is no Anchorage, Alabama. I think you mean Alaska.

Oops, I was off too. The abbreviation for Alabama was Ala many moons ago.
