Social Circle’s ‘Gallery of Creation’ is closing

Museum filled with talking robotic animals that aimed to emphasize God’s role in the world’s wonder is shutting down

Thanks to expensive research and many nights digging through your trash, we know that a small percentage of CL’s readers have $500,000 they’d like to spend on a museum filled with more than 300 robotic, talking animals that glorify God. Hence this blog post.

The Gallery of Creation in Social Circle is shutting its doors — and looking for a buyer.

Joseph Hurt, who’s operated the museum with his wife since 1978, tells CL that a lack of visitors and the lure of retirement have prompted him to close the attraction. The 11,000-square-foot repository of artifacts and exhibits aimed to “present examples of God’s creations in such a beautiful manner that one is inspired to have a greater appreciation for God’s handiwork and a greater love for our Creator.”

“Most natural history museums are just focused on ‘natural’ history,” Hurt, a former curator of the Fernbank Science Center, says. “But this was a museum of natural wonder, as if God created everything.”

Hurt says it’d “tickle me to death for someone to come in and buy the entire museum” for $500,000. He’s also willing to strike a deal on some of the exhibits, most of which he created in his adjacent design studio. If you ever wanted a talking lion, this is your chance.
