The Televangelist: 'Lost' Season 6, Episode 10

Let's be honest, on the list of interesting backstories the bottom three are probably Sawyer, Kate and Jin/Sun.  I don't know if it's because Jin and Sun were created after casting and added on to the original concept of the show, so their plot lines are always sort of last-minute fodder, but Darlton threw them a bone last night with "The Package" (minds out of the gutter, Losties!) and gave them a fairly important, if subtle, episode.

Jin and Sun "finding each other through time" has gotten tiresome, but at least we saw them together in their alt timeline.  And for once, the fates in the alt timeline are almost worse than the island.  It seems the question of "which Kwon?" was answered in the first segment where Jin makes an emphatic point to the hotel that he and Sun are not married - she is Miss Paik.  This might not carry any further significance (since on the island of course they are married), but because we got a hint that the universes/timelines may be merging.

In the first instance, Mikhail (hey Mikhail!) gets shot in the eye in the alt timeline.  In the original timeline, his loss of an eye is never explained.  Let us not forget how Martin Keamy has appeared now twice, and that Sayid did not kill him.  Both Keamy and Mikhail have ties to Widmore in the original timeline - does this mean they still stand to be "recruited" by him in the alt timeline?  Additionally, just as Sun is shot in the alt timeline where she cannot speak English, suddenly original-timeline Sun also loses her ability to speak English.  Is this a shadow of what happened with Juliet, who was able to float between timelines, briefly, inviting Sawyer for coffee?

Widmore mentioned that if The Man in Black is allowed off the island, certain people would cease to be.  Is that because the timelines would merge?  There is a significance to the remaining candidates leaving (or returning to) the island together.  If only one of them matters, why do they have to travel in a pack?  Flocke tells Claire that Kate is "no longer" a candidate - why is that, or is he lying?  And why, in fact, does he need Claire?  I need your theories, readers!

In the end I don't really care about any of this, because Desmond. David. Hume. is back!

Next week: We know from the bagpipes it's a Desmond episode - subtle, ABC!  With six episodes left, "a sacrifice must be made," and "the island is not done with [Desmond] yet."  Will Desmond be the sacrifice?  He's played the Messiah before!

Musings and Miscellanea:

  • Aqua Sayid is a badass MF.  And when he and Desmond gazed, dazed and confused, into each other's eyes, it harkened back to their bromantic days on the island and the freighter (sigh) ...
  • Is it just me or has Jack been channeling some early-seasons Locke with his philosophical comments and kind nature?
  • Wow, Sun has a nice rack.
  • Oh hey Room 23, that strange testing room for subliminal messaging.  And writers, please, stop trying to make bizarro-Liz Lemon's character happen in the last hour of the show.  Haven't we learned that extra characters are a waste of time? (Dogen, Lennon, I'm looking at you!)
  • Hmm, so Widmore is also looking for the pockets of energy on the island ... perhaps destroying the island is the right thing, and the original timeline needs to be completely eradicated for it all to work?
  • "For the fourth time, I was gathering mangos and she was already unconscious!" - Ben
  • How fierce was that epic bald-man face off between Flocke and Widmore?  Damon tweeted last night: @DamonLindelof  In one week, the conversation is going to change.
  • Why is everyone just now mentioning that Hurley is fat?  We've known this since season one!  Even Jacob's in on it ...
  • Jin seeing his daughter for the first time - really cute
  • Did anyone else think Waaaaaalt might have been in the sub?
