Good news, y'all. CL's newest staff writer, Gwynedd Stuart, is now on the job. Nefarious public defenders and wayward hit men should be very, very afraid.

Stuart spent five years at Folio Weekly, the altweekly in Jacksonville, where she covered ... pretty much everything. Her story about the controversy surrounding the region's incoming public defender [PDF] won her a first-place award last year from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies in the long-form news-writing category. She also did a bang-up job describing the kind of botched murder-for-hire [PDF] that only happens in Florida.

Stuart's new to Atlanta, so please buy her a sweet tea — or have Blondie crush a beer can for her.

I'm also excited to announce that longtime staff writer Scott Henry is being promoted to news editor!

As most of you Fresh Loafies know, Henry is super knowledgeable about Atlanta's political scene, its seedy underbelly and its general off-the-beaten-track weirdness. He's also a really smart dresser.

Don't worry — as news editor, Henry will continue to be a regular voice on this blog and in the paper. We're also hoping that he'll write more stories that give him a nasty rash.
