Hawks' relevancy debate: REVISITED

Posted By on Sun, May 2, 2010 at 5:44 AM

Apparently the Atlanta Hawks aren't quite ready to relinquish their time in the spotlight or maybe they just wanted to prove me wrong.

Either way, the prematurely-"irrelevanced" Hawks resurfaced from the ocean of disappointment on Friday night thanks to an impressive 83-69 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks and now find themselves with one nostril buoying above sea level.

So what changed?

Where did the Atlanta team that squandered a nine-point lead in the last two minutes of Wednesday night's game inside Philips Arena disappear to?

How did the Hawks defy the inevitable slip into national obscurity?

Whatever, wherever and however it happened—-the Hawks kept their 2010 season alive and will try to lock up a date with the Orlando Magic this afternoon in Game 7.

Relentless rebounding. Tenacious defense. Restored desire.

These three key ingredients of Atlanta's Game 6 victory will be on the menu once again for Game 7 on Sunday as the Hawks look to delay the inevitable decline into the world of underachieving sports franchises.

Hopefully, for unrealistic Hawks fans everywhere, Sunday's return home  will be a worthy one as Atlanta looks to avoid a fate they escaped in Milwaukee two nights ago—-the fate of unfulfilled expectations.
