Photo of the day: Medical Arts Building billboard gets day in court

First there was the hotel advertisement. Then came the cell-phone promotion. And now there's a giant bottle of whiskey. No matter what the product, the Medical Arts Building supposedly could sell it. One problem: city officials and fans of the historic abandoned landmark said the ads were illegal. The billboard company fired back. This weekend, the beauty you see above was installed. And tomorrow, an Atlanta Municipal Court judge will try to decide who's got the law on their side.

CL staff photographer Joeff Davis snapped this photo of the ad around 3 p.m. He noticed that the billboard was visible from a new playground across the street at First United Methodist Church. We thought about posting a different photo, but there's something kind of bizarre about children running around and climbing a play set in front of the ad.

Court starts nice and early at 8 a.m.
