Spot the Europhile

Posted By on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 3:44 PM

One of my primary gripes about the AJC is how seldom the content expresses the wit and cultural sensibilities of the people I know who work there. I think the management too often hides those particular lights under the proverbial bushel.

That's why I was extra happy this morning to see my friend Christian Boone's light jab at the intown hipstermania accompanying the World Cup.

"Ever play spot the Europhile?

You'll have plenty of opportunities this weekend as the only athletic event noted on the hipster calendar returns. It may not be that big of a deal in Blairsville or Brunswick, but trendy, inside-the-perimeter types who typically disdain sports are all abuzz about the World Cup, which kicks off Friday."

Which reminds me, I need to find my Sambas and buy some Pimm's before Saturday's game .

UPDATE: After I wrote the above, someone at the AJC edited the online version of the story, removing two pointy, funny lines about hipsters shopping at Trader Joe's and American Apparel. Because nothing improves humorous stories as effectively as someone showing up six hours later and editing out the actual jokes.

Here's an idea for the AJC: instead of hacking away story's personality, just cut-and-paste it onto one of your blogs and let readers yammer on about it.
