Chaos: I-20 resurfacing in DeKalb County to begin this weekend

Plan accordingly. From the Georgia Department of Transportation:

[GDOT] announces the resurfacing project on I-20, between Columbia Drive and Turner Hill Road in Dekalb County, will begin Friday at 9 p.m. with a double left lane closure westbound from Turner Hill Road to the Farrington Road overpass.

“Two lanes will always be open to traffic during the construction but we are expecting very heavy traffic in the area,” said DOT District Construction Engineer Mickey McGee. “We encourage motorists to use alternate routes or to avoid the project area altogether.”

The project will continue on weeknights and weekends until Fall, when the temperatures get too cool to pave, and will be completed in the Spring. The contractors will not close any lanes on holiday weekends. The work hours are weeknights from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. and on weekends continuously from Friday night at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Monday.

Total cost of the project? $28.6 million.
