Norwood chuztpah is awe-inspiring

"If you haven't already heard the news, I want to confirm with each of you that our petition drive is very much alive and kicking.”

That's the latest word from Mary Norwood's campaign for Fulton Commission chairman, received by e-mail mere minutes ago. She goes on to ask supporters to collect signatures for her effort to run as an independent, to gather in Buckhead next Tuesday for a campaign rally and to accompany her downtown — stopping for lunch at the Fulton County admin cafeteria — to deliver the signatures to the county Board of Elections.

It's just a darn shame she couldn't remember to make her qualifying deadline.

Yes, as the AJC's Jim Galloway reported last week, Norwood showed up at the county elections office several hours late last Friday to hand in her check and qualifying forms.

It appears she thought the cut-off was at 5 p.m. The deadline actually was noon.

On Wednesday, Roderick Edmond, chairman of the county elections board, issued a statement saying Norwood's name would not appear on the July 20 ballot. Norwood today says she has asked Edmond to retract said statement.

"His letter has made its way to the media and has been interfering with our ability to obtain petition signatures,” she explains in her e-mail.

Well, no shit. That's because you did not qualify and, therefore, are not a candidate!

Look, I've got nothing personal against Mary Norwood. Generally speaking, she's a nice lady and she means well. But missing a filing deadline because she didn't bother to verify the time is a perfect example of the slipshod, scatter-brained manner in which Norwood operates. I take no joy in kicking her while she's down, but this is exactly why CL didn't seriously consider endorsing her for mayor.

Norwood's attorneys apparently persuaded the Fulton elections board to give her a hearing next Tuesday. Then, I assume, her political career will whimper to a close.

Norwood reminds me of Olens... they sure are great at looking busy. In this by-gosh kinda way. But if I had to take a pop-quiz right now on what exactly it is they stand for and/or are trying to DO for us, I couldn't pass it.

Why such disdain for Norwood. GA is backwards just like the author of this article. Glad we support bigots like Eaves and Reed. I will vote for a republican just out of pure angst at Fulton County's messed-up ways and creative loafings total anti Norwood bias. S. Dekalb voter - what has Norwood done to upset you so much. Chill. She was almost Mayor. Afraid of the tide....

BTW Henry...I would say serving as an at-large post council person in a fairly large city is far more advanced of a politcal career then you will ever get...

PS: nice that Edmonds is a cronie of Eaves, and that the entire staff not (the Board) at the Fulton County Elections office is African American: investigate that...

from ajc: concur 100percent: it is funny how Eaves (and the Fulton County black powerbase “machinery”) are so scared of diminutive Mary Norwood. It seems Eaves will stoop to ANY level to “win”, including overt race-baiting (e.g. firehoses and dogs) and any other straw he and “the machine” can grab.

Eaves, even if “win”… you’re still a “loser”, you’re still pathetic.

"slipshod, scatter-brained manner" Perfect description of this woman. Nothing personal, just the truth.

Ok folks. Let's face it, it's not a black/white issue. Mary just screwed up. how can you not confirm such an important deadline. So please get over, sit down and plan your attack for the next available seat somewhere. The days of forcing your way into office are over.

Isn't Anne Fauver campaign manager for Mary Norwood, and how could Anne possibly have missed the filing deadline?

Why, yes, QM, since you asked, Norwood's former Council colleague Anne Fauver was indeed serving as her campaign manager. I hope she was working pro bono.

We need some new blood in fulton county, or they're about to take down the whole ship. Milton county will be formed starting with sandy springs and then north. When this happens, Atlanta will become a bombed out city, just like Baltimore. yeah, and they didn't think it could happen either, but it Did.

Big deal, she filed a few hours late... it that the whole reason not to let her run. President Obama filed late in TX (McCain too) and that didn't stop them from getting on the ballot.

Thank you GA politics! I am glad you brought up the "holy one" now everyone may (inclduing the anit-Norwood Scott Henry) calm down a bit. Reality is: they are afraid (too) she would win and prove my point: intown liberals need other choices than conservative black preachers...
