Senate committee to discuss Georgia's oil-spill preparedness

Posted by Thomas Wheatley on Tue, Jul 20, 2010 at 2:45 PM

Wondering how Georgia might fare should we experience our own Deepwater Horizon oil leak catastrophe? You might want to stop by the Gold Dome later this week.

Members of the state Senate Natural Resources and Environment Committee will hear from Georgia experts with insight and experience about environmental epidemiology, public health and marine life, among other subjects. Also on the agenda are officials who can discuss an oil spill's potential impact on Georgia's coastal economy.

Here's the schedule:

Unlike Senate NRE committees in the past, the guest speakers' list doesn't appear to be stocked with utility cronies. One name — Dr. Samantha Joye — has attracted national attention for her recovery work in the Gulf of Mexico.
