Howell Mill Road could be tricky, annoying this weekend

Plan on gallivanting around the Westside this weekend? You might want to plan your route ahead of time.

Weather permitting, the Atlanta Department of Watershed Management will conduct electrical work on the Hemphill Water Treatment Plant and will close Howell Mill Road between Huff Road and 17th Street from Friday night until Monday morning.

That's really only a few hundred feet. But since Howell Mill links the Westside to I-75 and other parts of town, the closure has the potential to cause a few logjams and wacky detours.

The department suggests you take 14th Street to Northside Drive, then Northside Drive to 17th Street, and 17th Street back onto Howell Mill Road.

If it rains, then no work will be conducted and all these keystrokes will be for naught. And we will weep.

Ok, this is just inexcusable... how we have to read about road closures in our 'hood from CL. Watershed Mngt. should have alerted us via our neighborhood discussion boards/email long before THIS weekend. They know better, because they know US. Personally.

And no one has said a peep to us directly. Unbelievable. We just went through this communication process (or lack thereof) with the closure of Collier Road for sewer repairs. I hate to have to get my live-stream back on.

Come on City of Atlanta. Do better about informing the effected citizenry... NOW. And you all know how to reach me at least.
