Catch up with some of the summer's best shows before they close this weekend and then head over to Gather Atlanta like you know what you're talking about. All the details after the jump.
Oliver Black's exhibition, The Tank Half Full, is running around the country from California to New York and back again, hitting a number of cities in between. Tonight, Black stops in Atlanta for a three week run at ABV Gallery. Check out the video above for a little background on Black. The opening coincides with the Studioplex fourth Friday Art Walk, so there should be plenty to check out if you're inclined.
Saturday
The second annual Gather Atlanta is happening at the Trees Atlanta building in Reynoldstown. In their own words, Gather Atlanta is a "coalition of young creative organizations (MINT Gallery, WonderRoot, BurnAway.org, and ThoughtMarker.net) that puts on an annual conference for emerging creative organizations." Basically, if you ever wanted a chance to rub elbows with a large percentage of the people who make Atlanta's art scene what it is, this is your chance. This year's panel discussion includes Dorian McDuffie, Lauri Stallings, Fahamu Pecou, and HENSE chatting about "Art and the Public Sphere." Details and directions are all available from Gather Atlanta.
It Came From Left Field is closing at Young Blood Gallery this weekend
Speaking of getting acquainted with Atlanta's art scene, Saturday is your last chance to get acquainted with some of the summer's best shows. You didn't see See Pages at Whitespace? What are you waiting for? The same goes with Dayna Thacker's solo show at Barbara Archer, the Winsome Want group show at Kibbee, the San Francisco artists at Marcia Wood, and It Came From Left Field at Young Blood. Treat Saturday like a catch-up day and then you'll actually know what you're talking about when you head over to Gather Atlanta.
