Last week’s season opener began with the question we’ve been puzzling over since “Mad Men” began: “Who is Don Draper?” This season, it seems, the question will be: “Who was Don Draper?” Despite the brief reappearance of Don’s mojo in last week’s final moments, the specimen we have before us is a dispiriting imitation of Madison Ave’s Man of Mystery—and, I have to say, a damn good reason to get excited again for “Mad Men.”
