This photo was taken at the end of the Karen Handel-Sarah Palin rally at the Intercontinental in Buckhead on Aug. 9. Hundreds of thousands, probably millions of pictures have been made of Palin, I was trying to make a photo of Palin that was insightful and different then any shot before. This is my goal when shooting celebrities and politicians in press conference situations. At these types of events the photographers are usually in a confined space inches apart and far from the stage, making it almost impossible to capture anything unique from the photographer right next to you. In these situations I seek out candids usually at the beginning or the end of the event when I am not so restrained. This image was made at the end of the event when Palin ventured off the stage and shook hands with the crowd. It was extremely crowded and I was smashed between many people. When Palin finally came around it got even more intense and I reached across and snapped a bunch of images manipulating my flash so that it would create this bizarre lighting.
