Candidate for chief of Hartsfield-Jackson still misbehavin'

Atlantas next airport chief?
  • Atlanta's next airport chief?
John Clark — one of Mayor Kasim Reed's three finalists for the position of chief of Hartsfield-Jackson Airport — is is making headlines yet again, this time in Indianapolis, where he's currently executive director of the Indianapolis International Airport.

NBC affiliate Eyewitness News 13 reported on Friday that they just found records indicating Clark was arrested in February for reckless driving — going 135 mph in a 70 mph zone in his sports car — when he was on city business. In Clark's defense, it's debatable whether attending the Super Bowl really counts as "city business." Oh, but of course, he did use city money to fund the excursion. Read on:

One trip took [Clark] to Miami for the Super Bowl in February 2010. He hosted representatives from several airlines, expensing $4,500 for five game tickets and $1,300 for his hotel costs, but he evidently didn't spend the last night there.

Just hours after the game, he left Miami, heading north on I-95 toward Vero Beach. He didn't return to his Coral Gables hotel that night.

Clark was pulled over in his Porsche 911 going almost twice the posted speed limit. At 2:00 am, Clark was clocked at 135 mph in a 70 mph zone. He was arrested and charged with willful, wanton, reckless driving and spent several hours in the Indian River County Jail before posting $500 bond.

The article also notes that in his first 15 months on the job in Indy, he's managed to rack up almost $45,000 in travel expenses — and that he very recently visited Atlanta for an interview.
