Richard Stogner, ex-DeKalb administrator, re-ups

Richard Stogner re-ups as DeKalb County’s chief operating officer

Richard Stogner, the guy who ran DeKalb County on a day-to-day while then-CEO Vernon Jones was out getting into peccadilloes, has been reappointed by CEO Burrell Ellis as the county’s chief operating officer, pending confirmation from the board of commissioners.

Stogner has long been known as a go-to government administrator, having served in high-ranking posts in Fulton County and Atlanta City Hall. During his tenure in DeKalb, he received much of the credit for smooth-running county operations, but his reputation took a hit when a jury found him and Jones liable for reverse-racial discrimination against county parks employees.

Still, one must imagine that county commissions will be delighted to have such a capable administrator back at the county reins — especially since he’s agreed to accept no salary for his first year.
