The New York Times attempts to ruin hot dogs for Braves fans

The New York Times says Iz durty

On Monday, the creepy sink spies over at the American Society for Microbiology released the findings of their annual study of the frequency with which people actually wash their hands after using the bathroom.

Researchers visited six locations in four cities — Shedd Aquarium and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal in New York, Ferry Terminal Farmers Market in San Francisco, and Turner field right here in Atlanta. Their results didn't bode well for Atlanta — Braves fans in particular — at least according to the NYT, who used our relative uncleanliness to build a fun, anecdotal lede. Check out this shit (not unlike the kind on your unwashed hands):

BOSTON — The next time a man hands you a hot dog after making a run to the restroom and the concession stand at an Atlanta Braves baseball game, be careful: there is a good chance he did not wash his hands, according to a report released Monday by a group that sends spies into public restrooms in the name of science.
Only about two-thirds of the men observed washed their hands after using the restroom at Turner Field — the lowest rate for any of the locations cited in the observational study and survey on the hand-washing habits of Americans.

OK. Only about two-thirds? Am I the only person cynical enough to imagine that roughly zero-thirds of men wash their hands after going to the bathroom? And, really, do you people know what hot dogs are made of? A little pee pee is the least of our worries.

Anyway, Brian Sansoni, an American Cleaning Institute spokesman, was kind enough to give the non-washers observed at Turner Field a pass:

As for sports fans, Mr. Sansoni said, they “might be in a rush to get back to the game.” He noted that the percentage of men who soaped up at Turner Field, although the lowest in the report, showed an improvement since the last survey, in 2007.

“But if you’re passing people’s hot dogs down the aisle, you kind of hope that hand-washing behavior would increase,” Mr. Sansoni said.
