>> Cardinal Walter Kasper will not be joining Pope Benedict XVI on his first visit to Britain after saying that arriving in the nation makes “you sometimes think you’ve landed in a third world country.” Don’t worry, the Vatican explains the comment just referred to “the UK’s multicultural society.” Oh, okay. If Britain is a third-world country, then what the hell is their homeland of Italy? (the Guardian)

>> The White House yesterday ordered that the 3,500 abandoned Gulf oil wells be plugged by the companies that ditched them. Poor struggling oil companies, with all their debt and sorrow, having to be annoyed with plugging their own wells. (MSNBC)

>> Yesterday, Democrats unveiled a new logo (a white circle with a blue outline with a baby-blue D in it) and a new slogan (“Change That Matters). Even diaper companies have less wimpy logos. (Politico)

>> A new government report has found that drug use in the U.S. is at the highest level since 2002, with 8.7 percent of the population saying they took drugs last year. That’s way too low, maybe the other drug users have just blacked out their experiences. (AP)
